Viola primulifolia subsp. occidentalis - Rare, early summer. perennial, 3-8 in. Tuft. Leaves from base with petiole 1-4 in. long, blade narrow to widely egg-shaped, slightly scalloped
, with pointed or narrowly rounded tip. Flower stems usually shorter than leaves. Flowers white, lower petal veined purple, more or less 1/3 in. long, side petals hairy near center, spur short. Grows in areas of serpentine rock, on wet hillsides, in creeks, or in fens with Darlingtonis californica. Rare and endemic in Syskiyou Mountains at 300-1600 ft. Native. Taken in Del Norte County, CA
